On Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, a startup called Ghost came out of stealth with $11 million in seed funding to sell a computer built for one job: running a personal AI that lives in your home. The company was founded by 19-year-old Zain Javaid, and the round was led by Andreessen Horowitz, according to TechCrunch.
What happened
Ghost's product is called Core. It is a screenless box that sits in your home and runs AI agents on your own data. It costs $3,499, pre-orders are open, and the company says it plans to ship in the last week of October, according to TechCrunch.
Inside, Core uses an Nvidia RTX Pro 4000 SFF Blackwell graphics chip. It comes with three AI models already installed, including models from the Qwen and Gemma families, and users can add others. People reach Core through their phone or an app rather than a monitor and keyboard.
The idea is that Core connects to your desktop files, apps and smart home devices, learns your patterns and then helps you get things done, sometimes before you ask. Javaid told TechCrunch the difference is in "how it remembers, how it takes action, how it knows when to reach out."
Privacy is the main selling point. "Once you buy the hardware, everything is stored, run, and processed on the device," Javaid said, according to Dealroom's report on the raise. The company says data is encrypted on the device and a firewall watches outgoing network traffic to flag unauthorized data sharing.
Besides Andreessen Horowitz, investors include Abstract, Audacious Ventures, SV Angel and Nova. The founding team includes Javaid, Nicholas Chua, Yifei Chen and Gautam Sharda. TechCrunch reported that Javaid first planned a career in quantitative finance before ChatGPT's 2022 release pulled him toward AI.
Why it matters
Most AI assistants today run in the cloud. Your questions, documents and habits travel to a company's servers. Ghost is betting that a meaningful group of people will pay a premium to keep all of that at home.
It is also a bet on "always-on" AI agents. Instead of opening a chat window when you need help, an agent runs in the background, watches for useful moments and acts on your behalf. That kind of agent needs steady access to your personal data, which is exactly why some people will want it running on hardware they own.
The price is high for a consumer gadget, so early buyers will likely be tech enthusiasts, privacy-focused professionals and small business owners. Whether the idea spreads beyond them will depend on how useful the agents turn out to be day to day.
What this means for founders and builders
Ghost is a reminder that a clear point of view can carry a young company a long way. The team picked one strong promise, private AI that you own, and built the whole product around it.
For software founders, the takeaway is not that you need to build hardware. It is that the "where" and "how" of AI is now part of the product decision. Some customers want cloud convenience. Others want privacy, local control or offline access. Picking the right setup for your audience can be your edge.
You also do not need to be 19 with venture backing to launch an AI product. KIING DIGITAL LABS builds complete software products that are ready to run. You can browse finished products ready to acquire or start a custom build shaped around your idea, whether that is a cloud app, a mobile app or an AI assistant for a specific audience. The bottom line
Ghost's $11 million seed round and its $3,499 Core computer put a spotlight on private, always-on personal AI. It is an early test of whether people will pay to keep their AI at home. For builders, the lesson is to choose a clear promise for your users and build every part of the product around it.
