Meta Releases Muse Wonder, Its First Frontier AI Model

Meta Superintelligence Labs launched Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, two large models built for long-running AI agents that remember what matters to users.

On Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, Meta released Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, two new AI models from Meta Superintelligence Labs. TechCrunch described the launch as Meta's first attempt at a frontier model, meaning a model meant to compete with the most capable systems from other leading AI labs. Meta calls the pair its most capable models yet for personal and professional agent tasks.

What happened

Meta announced the two models in a post on its AI research blog. Muse Wonder is available now through the Meta Model API, the company's paid service for developers, and through Muse Code. The larger Muse Wonder Full is available only to Muse Code subscribers and is not offered through the API.

Meta says Muse Wonder will soon power experiences in its Muse assistant, starting with subscribers, and will also be used to generate artifacts inside Muse.

Two features sit at the center of the launch:

  • Active Memory. The model keeps important context about a user across conversations and pulls up the details that matter for the task at hand.
  • Active Focus. The model keeps working toward hard goals by trying other approaches, working through blockers and adapting to new information. Meta says it asks for clarification when it needs to and checks in before important actions.

Meta says the models were trained at its gigawatt-scale Prometheus data center, which TechCrunch reports is located in central Ohio. The company claims state-of-the-art results on several benchmarks for agents, memory and coding, and it describes Muse Wonder as its most aligned model to date, with its strongest safeguards so far against misuse. Meta said a full safety report will be available soon.

TechCrunch noted that this is the first frontier model release since Scale AI founder Alexandr Wang restructured Meta's AI efforts. Before Monday, Meta had shipped the lighter Muse Spark model and the Muse agent, but not a model aimed at the very top of the market.

Why it matters

For the past few years, the race for the most capable AI model has mostly been a contest between a handful of labs. Meta has huge reach through Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, but it had not offered a closed, frontier-class model to developers through a paid API. Muse Wonder changes that. Builders now have one more serious option to compare on quality, speed and cost.

The focus on memory is also telling. Many AI tools still start each conversation largely from scratch unless the app builds its own memory system. Meta is betting that the next wave of AI products will be long-running assistants that remember a person's preferences, projects and history over days, weeks and months. If that bet is right, memory becomes a core feature that buyers expect, not a nice extra.

More competition at the top usually helps the people building on top of these models. When several strong providers fight for developers, prices tend to fall and features improve faster.

What this means for founders and builders

If you run or plan to launch an AI product, this release is a reminder of a simple rule: do not tie your whole business to one model provider. The best model this month may not be the best one next quarter. Products that can switch between providers, or use different models for different jobs, are easier to keep competitive and cheaper to run.

It also shows where user expectations are heading. People will soon expect AI tools to remember them. If your product asks users to repeat the same background every session, that gap will feel bigger as assistants like Muse get better at memory.

There are two practical ways to move on this:

  1. Build something new. If you have an idea for an assistant, a coaching tool or a niche AI product, a custom build lets you get a product designed around your idea, with room to plug in the AI model that fits best.
  2. Start with a finished product. Building from zero takes months. Our acquisitions page lists complete software products that are already built and ready to take to market, so you can spend your time on customers instead of code.

Either way, keep an eye on model choice as a business decision, not just a technical one. Cost per user, response quality and privacy all depend on it.

The bottom line

Meta has entered the frontier model race with Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, and it is competing on memory and staying power rather than raw chat alone. For builders, that means more choice, more pressure on prices and a clear signal that AI products that remember their users are the direction the market is moving.
