On Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, Vocca, a startup that builds an AI phone assistant for medical practices, announced a $20 million Series A funding round led by Norrsken VC. Heal Capital, Speedinvest and firstminute capital also took part, according to Tech Funding News and Startup.eu. The company says it has now raised $25 million in total.

What happened

Vocca is based in Paris and New York. Its AI assistant picks up when patients call a medical practice. It can answer common questions, book and change appointments, explain procedures and handle routine administrative tasks. It connects with the scheduling and electronic health record systems that practices already use.

Vocca was founded in July 2024 by Eliott Hoffenberg, its CEO, and Hugo Danet, its CTO. According to Tech Funding News and Dealroom, it now serves about 15,000 practitioners across 1,500 practices in the United States and Europe, up from roughly 2,000 practitioners a year earlier. The company works across more than 20 medical specialties and handles more than 1 million patient interactions each month. Both outlets reported that Vocca resolves about 70% of conversations without a human stepping in.

Founders of the French health insurance startup Alan and of Datadog also invested as angels, according to Tech Funding News and Dealroom.

The company plans to use the money to build deeper scheduling infrastructure for health care, add ways for patients to reach practices beyond voice calls, support more medical specialties, handle more complex tasks and grow its presence in the United States. Dealroom reported that Vocca plans to hire about 40 people across Paris and New York by the end of the year.

Why it matters

Phone calls are a huge headache for medical practices. Front desk staff juggle patients in the waiting room, insurance questions and a ringing phone all at once. Calls go unanswered, patients get frustrated and appointments are lost. Hiring more staff is expensive and hard in many areas.

An AI assistant that answers every call, at any hour, solves a real and painful problem. That is why voice AI for health care has become one of the busiest areas in startup funding. When a tool saves staff time and brings in more booked appointments, it pays for itself quickly, which makes it easier to sell.

Vocca's story also shows the power of vertical software, meaning software built for one specific industry. A general AI phone tool would not know how a dental office books cleanings or how a specialist handles referrals. A tool built for medical practices can learn those details and become much more useful.

What this means for founders and builders

Vocca is a strong example of a simple formula: take a powerful new technology, voice AI, and apply it to one industry's daily pain. The same formula works far beyond health care. Law firms, salons, auto shops, real estate offices and home service companies all lose business to missed calls and slow follow-up.

The opportunity is real, but a winning product needs more than a good AI voice. It needs a clean dashboard, calendar connections, call records, user accounts, billing and strong privacy controls. Those parts are what turn an AI model into a business people trust.

The bottom line

Vocca's $20 million Series A shows how much demand there is for AI that handles the everyday work of small businesses, starting with the phone. By focusing on medical practices, Vocca turned a common frustration into a fast-growing product. For founders, the lesson is to pick one industry, solve one painful problem and build a complete product around it.
