On Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, French startup Cleavr announced an €8 million seed round to grow its AI platform for collecting unpaid invoices. The round was led by Varsity, according to Tech.eu and Tech Funding News.
What happened
Cleavr automates accounts receivable, the work of tracking what customers owe and making sure they pay. Its software follows up on invoices by email, phone and text message, and it escalates disputes to a person when needed.
Kima Ventures, Better Angle, Portfolio Ventures, Kerala Ventures and Financière Saint James also invested, according to Tech.eu. The company was founded by CEO Baptiste Nassoy, Arthur Guérin and Antoine Grenard. The new round comes about six months after Cleavr raised a €1 million pre-seed round in March 2026.
Cleavr says it processes several billion euros in invoices each year for companies in multiple European markets. The company reports that its customers see an average 37% drop in days sales outstanding, the average time it takes to get paid, along with a 40% increase in cash collected and an 80% cut in the time teams spend chasing payments. These are company-reported figures.
"Collections is a repetitive, unrewarding task that nobody wants to do," Nassoy said, according to Tech.eu. Cleavr plans to use the money to improve its product, grow its sales team and expand across Europe.
Why it matters
Late payments are a major problem for small and mid-sized businesses. A company can be profitable on paper and still run out of cash because customers pay weeks or months late. Chasing those payments takes time, and many owners avoid it because it feels awkward or because they have no one to do it.
This is exactly the kind of task AI agents handle well. It follows clear rules, it repeats constantly and it involves polite, consistent communication. An agent never forgets to send a reminder and does not mind making the 10th follow-up call.
Cleavr is part of a wider trend: AI tools moving from general chat assistants into specific business jobs. Investors are backing startups that pick one painful, repetitive workflow and automate it well.
The speed of Cleavr's funding also stands out. Going from a €1 million pre-seed round to an €8 million seed round in about six months suggests the company found customers who were ready to pay quickly. That kind of early demand is what investors look for most.
For finance teams, the appeal is easy to measure. Every day an invoice goes unpaid is cash the business cannot use for payroll, inventory or growth. Cutting even a week off the average payment time can make a real difference to a small company's bank balance.
What this means for founders and builders
If you run a business, look at where your time goes each week. Repetitive tasks such as follow-ups, scheduling, data entry and reminders are prime candidates for automation, and there is a growing set of tools to help.
If you are building software, Cleavr's story is a good model. Pick one painful job that a specific group of people does every week. Automate it, measure the results and show customers the numbers. A focused tool that saves real time or money is much easier to sell than a general product that does a bit of everything.

The bottom line
Cleavr's €8 million seed round shows how AI is taking over the tedious work that keeps businesses alive, like getting paid on time. Focused tools that automate one painful workflow are winning customers and investors. For founders, the opportunity is to find a repetitive job people hate and build the software that does it for them.
