On Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, Berlin-based fintech finmid announced a €17 million extension of its Series A round, along with new partnerships with ride-hailing platform Bolt and Greek online marketplace Skroutz. The company builds lending tools that platforms can offer to the businesses that sell or work on them, according to Tech.eu and Cyprus Mail.

What happened

The new round was led by Athens-based Big Pi Ventures and London-based Mainset, with existing investor Earlybird also taking part. It brings finmid's total funding to €52 million. The company was founded by former N26 colleagues Alexander Talkanitsa and Max Schertel and is also backed by N26 co-founder Max Tayenthal, according to Runtime Wire.

The company provides "embedded lending." That means a platform such as a delivery app or an online marketplace can offer loans to its business customers under its own brand, while finmid handles the underwriting, the regulated lending, servicing and refinancing in the background.

Under the new Bolt partnership, fleet operators who work on Bolt's platform can get vehicle financing of up to €400,000 over four years, according to Tech.eu and Runtime Wire. Operators browse vehicles on Bolt's platform, then apply through finmid, with fixed monthly payments and ownership passing to them after the final payment.

The Skroutz deal works differently. Cyprus Mail reported that Skroutz will provide the money for loans to roughly 9,000 merchants on its marketplace, while finmid supplies the lending technology and services. It is the first finmid partnership where the platform itself funds the loans.

The company already works with platforms including Wolt and Delivery Hero. "Every platform with business customers now has a way to become their financing partner without becoming a bank," Talkanitsa said, according to Tech.eu.

Why it matters

Marketplaces sit on valuable information. They can see how much each seller earns, how fast orders come in and how reliable a business is. That data can make lending safer than a traditional bank loan based on paperwork alone.

For the platform, offering financing creates loyalty and a new revenue stream. A driver who finances a car through Bolt is more likely to keep driving on Bolt. A merchant who gets working capital through Skroutz can stock more products and sell more on the marketplace.

For sellers, it means faster, simpler access to money, often with repayments tied to the platform they already use.

The Skroutz model is worth watching. When a marketplace funds loans with its own money, it takes on more risk but also keeps more of the reward. A partner like finmid handles the hard parts, such as regulation and servicing, so the platform can focus on its sellers.

What this means for founders and builders

The lesson for anyone building a marketplace is that your platform can earn money in more ways than transaction fees. Financing, subscriptions, premium listings, promoted placements and business tools can all add revenue, as long as they help your users succeed.

Embedded services like finmid's also show that you do not have to build everything yourself. A smart platform owner focuses on the core experience and plugs in specialist partners for complex features like payments and lending.

The bottom line

finmid's €17 million raise and its Bolt and Skroutz deals show that marketplaces are becoming financial partners for the businesses that depend on them. Platforms with strong data and loyal sellers can unlock new revenue without becoming banks. For founders, it is proof that a well-built marketplace has many ways to make money.
