Meta Brings Its Muse AI Agent to Small Businesses

Meta launched Muse for Small Business, a free-to-start AI agent that connects to tools like Shopify, Stripe and QuickBooks. Here is what it means for software makers.

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, Meta expanded its AI agent, Muse, to small businesses with a new version called Muse for Small Business. The agent is designed to help business owners handle sales, marketing and customer support by connecting to the software they already use. It is free to start, with usage limits, and paid plans are available for businesses that need more.

What happened

According to TechCrunch, Muse for Small Business connects with a long list of popular business tools, including Shopify, Stripe, Intuit QuickBooks, Slack, Notion, Canva, Figma, Asana, Dropbox, Box, Klaviyo, HighLevel, Granola, Lovable and Zoom. It also connects to Meta's own business tools, including Instagram professional analytics, Facebook Pages and Meta ad accounts.

Meta says the agent learns what a business sells, its brand voice and the questions customers ask most often. The goal, according to the company, is to help owners "run their business and find new customers."

"Small businesses have been growing on our apps for nearly two decades. They told us they're short on hours, not ideas," Meta said in its announcement. "So we built Muse for Small Business to help get work done with the tools they already use."

The launch came one day after Meta announced a new division called Meta Enterprise Platform on Monday, Sept. 28. According to TechCrunch and Meta, the division is led by Chirantan "CJ" Desai, who joined Meta from MongoDB, where he had been CEO. Muse itself launched to consumers earlier in September and, according to TechCrunch, quickly rose to the top of the app charts in the United States and Canada.

Why it matters

Meta already has a huge relationship with small businesses through Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Adding an AI agent that can work across a company's other tools gives Meta a way to become part of how those businesses operate every day, not only where they advertise.

For small business owners, the pitch is simple: less time on repetitive tasks. Answering common customer questions, drafting marketing posts and pulling together sales information are exactly the kinds of jobs that eat up an owner's week.

The long list of integrations also tells a story. AI agents are only as useful as the apps they can reach. Software products that connect easily to agents like Muse become more useful to their customers, while products that do not may get left out of the workflow.

What this means for founders and builders

This launch is a signal for anyone building software for small businesses. Customers will increasingly expect their tools to work with AI assistants, and the products listed as Muse integrations get visibility in front of Meta's huge small business audience.

That creates two opportunities. First, there is room for focused tools that solve a specific small business problem, such as booking, invoicing, customer follow-up or niche marketplaces, and connect cleanly with the major platforms. Second, there is demand for AI features built directly into existing products, so customers do not have to leave them.

It is also worth remembering who is paying. Small business owners are careful with money and short on time. Products that are easy to set up, priced simply and able to show results in the first week tend to win. A free starting tier, like the one Meta is offering, lowers the barrier to trying something new, and paid upgrades follow once customers see the value.

If you want to serve this market without spending a year on development, starting with a finished product can save a lot of time. The bottom line

With Muse for Small Business, Meta is betting that AI agents will become the new front door for how small businesses get work done. For builders, the message is clear: make your product easy for agents to connect to, and focus on saving your customers time.
